Magical coincidences

Well, hello again!
I'm writing this to you from an internet cafeteria on the Emerald Ireland: Ireland! It's not strictly a poem, but it is about poetry, so I thought I'd put it on here anyway.
I've spent the last couple of days here with my friend Noelene and my two babies. They were a little upset that they had to share a seat on the Ryanair flight, but they enjoyed talking to all the friendly people around us.
Noelene is one of my good friends - her son Grant is a somewhat troubled teen (there is a link to his site on my list of links!), and she decided to come with me to the home of peotry, Limerick, to recharge her creative batteries.
But the strangest coincidences have happened. I once spent a lovely weekend here with a lovely ex-boyfriend - we'll call him 'NW' - where I imparted to him the healing power of poetry. (The only reason we split up was that he is a movie maker, and he needed to devote his time to making movie magic). So I was thinking about NW and about poetry, when Noelene told me her son had been attending a mentoring programme - and her Grant's mentor was none other than dear NW! Wow, huh?
If that wasn't enough, we decided to search for NW - and it turned out he has internet log as well, AND THERE'S A LINK TO MY POETRY SITE ON IT! Double wow!
Missy and Herman were very impressed.
After all of these magical coincidences, I can feel my poetry chakra really going into overdrive. Phew! Let's get creative!

LoL (lots of love)

That's ok, melbournegirl - I think I called you Melba once, which was a little overfamiliar!
I found your interesting website thanks to the internet character cotton, who wrote something on my friend's son's site.
I looked him up, and after that it was one of those situations where you look at some things, and then just press the links that look interesting to you.
So on some site - I'm not even sure which one! - I pressed your link, and then had a very interesting time reading your musings.
You have a poetic soul, like me, and I'd love to see you use it for good.

    hi leeanne

i am curious and wonder why you think i am NOT using my powers for good. seems you think i am using them for evil? doesn't prose count as creative? can you clarify what you mean?

    have a nice day

    hi melbs
I'm not saying that you are trying to use your powers for evil, just that poetry is inherently good, and prose is inherently evil. Think about it - Hitler wrote prose, but he never once wrote a nice poem, and look what happened there!

Anyway, you seem absolutley lovely, so let's see some of that creative poetry juice flowing!

    hi leeanne

i don't much like poetry, it kind of irritates me, as well as frustrates me. but you missed my effort to bastardise keats [in a nice way, ode to autumn is a poem i DO like] on my post re hot waterbottles. it's cold here in melbourne-town these days.

just visited your friend's son's site. is that really how he writes or is it a gag?

    ciao for now

melba [quite like the name actually]

    hi melba (haha!)
It's sad that you don't like poetry - but just because you don't understand something doesn't mean you can't enjoy it and particpate in it!
And as for Grant - unfortunately, that is not just the way that he writes, it's the way he speaks as well, even in front of elderly people. He's a very troubled young man, but I try to help him get over his problems whenever I can. It's no 'gag' for his poor mother, believe me.

    Anyway, I'd better go.

    hey lea

i didn't say i didn't understand it, that's not why it frustrates me. to me it's like what a stage play is to a movie or a book. too many bones sticking out for all to see, not enough flesh. not sure if you will get what i mean. it's hard to explain. poetry to me is knobbly, where prose is soft.

do you mind if i call you lea?

    have a great day

    hi melba

you can call me lea, though i'd prefer leea.
I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean. You are saying that books and movies are like big, fat people, and poems and plays are like slim, attractive people? I suppose that is a fair point, but I think you'll find most people would choose to lose a few pounds, rather than put them on!
Poetry is like a little puppy dog, bouncing and playing in the sunshine, small and cute and lovely. They can make you feel good and happy and sometimes make you think, and they can help you to get over the pain of, say a cheating partner, for instance.
Do books or movies do that? Maybe, but I suspect they make you fat in the head with unwanted bits of greasy information, while a nice healthy poem will make you strong and attractive.
    Sorry to go on!

    hi leea

haven't visited for a while, been busy you know. don't know that i can clarify the poetry/prose thing any more for you. it's just about connection and even though there are classics that i adore, eg the lovesong of alfred j prufrock is something that resonates still after twenty or more years [studied in when i was 17 and it hit me between the eyes] and since there have been others, but these days nothing turns me off faster than a poem. see one in the paper, don't read it. feel like writing one, never. i guess to me too, it is so hard to write a good poem. the bad ones are really really bad.

i wrote one for my mum earlier this year, but it is very prose-y. i may post for you on my blog, but then you know, people will just shoot it down. ah perhaps that is the other reason i avoid - they can seem really really pretentious. so they can be either trite and superficial, or with major pretensions. nothing personal here about your poetry, but just about MY feelings.

    have a great day

I usually find this sort of nonsense irritating. But you two artists are really discussing the real things and that warms me. I reckon you two 'writers' (i don't want to get into the poetry vs prose debate here thanks very much, shucks) have got lots to offer. I know what you're both going through. Me and my associate Turbank once punched eachother in the face non-stop for about three days (we had naps and cordial breaks, so don't worry). Art sometimes requires this kind of discussion.
    Real (keep it) 'k?
